YARDLEY, PA —Those interested in trains can watch the layout of the Holiday Model Train being put together.
The “Pop-Up” event from 1-3 p.m. at the Old Lake Afton Library, 46 West Afton Ave., on Sunday, November 20, will also feature “Yardley” giveaways.
The pop-up is hosted by the Yardley Historical Association. This is a prelude to the Holiday Open House which will be held at the old library on December 3, 10 and 17.
Highlights of the events are scorching trains running through a vast network reminiscent of the city. At the pop-up, Dean Dickson, chief engineer, will position all the paraphernalia that makes the layout so dynamic. He will be happy to share practical advice and demonstrate the equipment.
For those who want to give local gifts, an assortment of ‘Yardley’ gifts will be available for purchase.
New this year are ‘Yardley’s Dream’ mugs and note cards, as well as the third edition of the Old Library porcelain ornament. Embroidered tea towels, books of all kinds, postcards and prints will be there.
In December, plan to return to the Old Library by Lake Afton to see it decked out in all its finery. There will be the trains, a real ornate Victorian tree with candles and strings of cranberries and popcorn, and treats for all.
In the spirit of the season, the Pop-Up and the Open Houses are free.
Donations are always welcome. Proceeds will benefit the Historical Association’s efforts to maintain the Victorian Library building and its collections of books, documents and ephemera relating to Yardley’s history.
