This midsize SUV from Toyota is emerging as a favorite among car buyers


Auto giant Toyota Kirloskar Motors had a terrific July 22. Last month, the automaker recorded annual growth of 50%. In July last year, the company sold 13,098 units in the Indian market. Last month, it sold 19,693 units, the Hindustan Times’ sister website Live Hindustan reported.

The reason for this meteoric growth is attributed to the compact SUV that Toyota introduced in the market. The SUV named Urban Cruiser has proven to be a major asset for the auto giant. This model recorded a huge annual growth of 174.67%.

Innova Crysta became Toyota’s best-selling car. The company sold 6,900 units of this multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) last month. It recorded a growth of 13.24% from July 2021. Last year, it sold 6,093 units, according to Live Hindustan report.

But Toyota Urban Cruiser outpaced all vehicles of this brand in terms of growth. Last month it sold 6,742 units, compared to 2,448 units sold in July last year.

As mentioned earlier, it recorded an annual growth of 174.67% by selling an additional 4,276 units in July this year. Compared to this, Toyota’s most popular SUV Fortuner recorded an annual growth of 67.69%, Glanza reported 12.29% and Vellfire reported 41.94%.

Hyryder Urban Cruiser

Last month, Toyota launched the Urban Cruiser Hyryder midsize SUV. The new SUV was designed according to the Suzuki architecture. It has been equipped with self-charging hybrid technology. Production of this new urban cruiser SUV will start from this month at a factory in Bidadi, Karnataka. The company has opened reservations and buyers can reserve it by paying 25,000.

What makes Urban Cruiser Hydryder so special

The Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder is available with a mild hybrid gasoline engine. It has a 1.5 liter engine with an e-drive transmission. Its engine power is 68 kilowatts and is capable of generating a maximum torque of 122 newton meters (Nm).

As for the color options, it is available in red-black and blue-black combination. It might be available in more colors at launch.

Speaking of interiors, the dashboard will have a soft touch leather finish. This mid-size SUV features a standalone touchscreen infotainment system, panoramic sunroof and head-up display. Besides that, it has features like rear air vents, air conditioning, Apple Carplay, 360 degree camera, etc.
