SPCA Dog Box doubles in size and items!

The SPCA Dog Box store has doubled in size, ensuring a much better shopping experience for everyone.

The Dog Box, one of Ballito’s best-loved charity shops, moved to its new location at the Balvista Center in October last year and has since expanded into an adjacent office.

Although the space is more modern than previous premises on Jack Powell Road, there were issues with donation capacity given its limited space.

“Some items could not be accepted which may now be possible given the increased size,” said Carol Saunders, Dog Box manager.

Besides taking stock, she said Dog Box volunteers should closely monitor the number of people in the store to adhere to Covid-19 protocols.

With the increased floor space, nearly double the number of customers can enter, while volunteers now also have a dedicated checkout area.

“The expansion makes almost everything easier for us when it comes to planning and operations. We are grateful that it came to fruition after all the hard work to get the store ready so soon. »

By visiting the Dog Box, you will now find sections dedicated to clothing, household items, home media and literature where you are bound to find a hidden gem.

The store fulfills an important fundraising component for the Durban & Coast SPCA and every donation will benefit local animals.

Inexpensive but good quality second-hand items are also crucial for families who may not be able to afford new items.

Despite the increase in size, the Dog Box still only accepts fiction books, while the rules on broken, dirty, or unusable items remain the same.

Visit the store Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., as well as Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. to discover the new space for yourself.

Donations are accepted in store, with door-to-door pickups available on Fridays.
