Take care of animals

The article about dogs on the loose – which turned out to be pit bulls – in Maumelle brings up the topic of dog breeds again. Usually dogs like this run free in the area because someone let them out.

People, don’t let your dogs loose, regardless of breed. Pits are wonderful and affectionate family dogs, so don’t blame the breed. These are the owners who have not trained or even taken the time to be with them. Any race will go wrong if it belongs to people like that. Some dogs are just bigger and cause bigger problems when loose. I know you keep hearing this said over and over again. There are other dogs running loose and doing damage that we don’t hear about.

We have leash laws for that very reason. Obey them. All dogs. Duh! Small dogs are injured or caught when allowed to run free. No baby dog should be cowardly, in my opinion.

Don’t force families that have or want pits to lose a “family member” because some people don’t/will not control theirs. They are great family members.

If you’re not a pet owner or just don’t understand, talk to dog owners or rescues. Learn the real truth.

I’ll get off my soapbox now, but please, please take care of your fur babies. Love them and protect them.

Obviously, I’m a dog owner and a dog lover. Thanks.

Judgment of book covers

During my teenage years, I ran with several guys. One in particular always seemed more in touch with reality than the rest of us. Being about two years older than all of us, he kept us out of trouble to some extent with his mannerisms. I, and probably others in our group, saw him as a stabilizing force for our small group of brothers.

In college, I had to hand in an assignment for a class. Being my usual procrastination self, I waited until it was almost due. Under duress, I asked my friend for help, thinking he might have something he could help me with. He did, an article he had written before, titled “The New China.” I didn’t even read it, I just proudly submitted “my” paper to my professor thinking I had a winner. After all, this friend was really smart, in my opinion.

To my surprise, my article was returned to me with the notation “It seems to be written by a socialist” and got a D, probably only because I returned something. It seems my older friend had different opinions that I was unaware of. radically liberal ideologies.

Obviously, nothing has changed regarding his radical views over the years. He is a regular contributor to the Voices page, appearing almost monthly. In fact, his comments are in line with the liberal mainstream media narrative.

I said all of this to say that the old cliché is true, “You can’t judge a book by its cover.” My friend had a great mind, he was just focused the wrong way. And boy, have I ever been wrong about him. What a waste of potential!

About buying votes

For everyone who says President Biden buys votes, have you ever heard of Citizens United? We have the GOP to thank for that. Don’t be so hypocritical.

The nation is changed

I consider myself a politically independent centre-left. Like most of my ilk, I believe Donald Trump was about the worst thing to happen to America since the Civil War. I think the integrity of an American president is the singularly most important attribute of the office.

It’s because of our mutual contempt for Trump that I generally enjoy Bret Stephens’ wonderfully crafted columns…until the recent “With Malice To Many.”

Sorry Bret, but you got it all wrong this time. On January 6, The Big Lie and everything Trump has said and done since losing the election changed all that. At this point, anyone who still supports Trump deserves no coverage. It doesn’t matter how gullible, stupid, misinformed or brainwashed they are. They should and must be called out for the damage their continued support is doing to the country, because without it Trump is gone – poof! The carnage he wrought on the union far outweighs any supposed good his policies may have created in their minds. We are talking here about democracy itself.

As for the anti-abortionists, Joe Biden never said they weren’t entitled to their beliefs, just that they weren’t nullifying those on the other side of that moral divide. And given the overturning of Roe v. Wade by an openly partisan Supreme Court and justices who lied about their belief in established precedent in order to be upheld, Biden was right to call the decision. No lifetime rights were named – only the decision itself.

What about the few instances where Democratic money has been used to back right-wing fringe candidates to help them get elected for later defeat in the general election? It’s just politics, and politics is a cynical and highly strategic game. Rest assured that millions of highly motivated voters like me are ready and ready for the November election. By the way, if Liz Cheney runs for office, she has my vote.
