Neal Adams, the comic book artist who inspired generations with his art, has sadly passed away at the age of 80. The news of his death reminded fans of some of the his most iconic comic book covers.
Neal’s wife, Marilyn Adams, told The Hollywood Reporter that the entertainer died Thursday, April 28, 2022, in New York City from sepsis.
The artist, who rose to prominence in the 60s and early 70s, first worked at DC on a character named Deadman. He then moved on to Marvel, working with the X-Men and the Avengers, before returning to DC and creating some of the most iconic Batman art.

Neal Adams’ first collaboration with artist Dennis O’Neil was for Batman, for which he did the cover art. Under editor Julius Schwartz, the duo continued to revitalize the essence of Batman’s dark and brooding character.
The star has also worked on other DC superheroes like Superman, Teen Titans, Green Lantern and more.
Besides his work with superheroes, Neal has also drawn the covers of horror comics like Do you dare to enter the house of mystery.
His first cover for Marvel was an X-Men artwork.
Neal and fellow artist Boris Vallejo were commissioned by Ballantine Books to paint the covers for Edgar Rice Burroughs. Tarzan books in the mid-1970s.
As a result, after his superhero illustrations, it was his work on the Tarzan pocket covers that garnered the most love among fans.

Neal Adams created new villains for Batman
While working with writer Dennis O’Neil on Batman, the artist has made some groundbreaking changes to Gotham’s superhero look. His covers offered realism and carried a sense of menace, befitting of the Dark Knight.
After years of Batman being a kid superhero, Neal and Dennis’ work on the character has made him an adult icon as well.
The duo also created many new villains for Batman such as Man-Bat and Ra’s al Ghul as well as the latter’s daughter, Talia, who would later become Batman’s lover.
