A Kootenay man who rose to fame on TikTok when he was considered a “hot boss” by his employees took on a few model gigs for romance novels.

JJ’s Fashions in Trail has over 2 million subscribers on the social media platform. It all started last year when employee Madi Dobie got the idea to feature her manager Rhylan Streloff in videos as a “hot boss.”

Videos show her and other store workers swooning over Streloff in an attempt to get him noticed.

Numerous fans snagged the brand’s offers from the store, they launched their own line of boss clothing, and Streloff was even invited to model for romance novels.

“The problem with me is creating the content and being able to follow it. It takes a lot longer than you think, ”he said.

“As for the cover of the book, I’m just starting to enter this world,” he said. A novel published by Illinois author Jennifer Hartman titled The bad heart features Streloff on the cover. It was released on August 10.

From the launch of the book, Streloff’s Instagram went crazy.

“There’s this whole subculture on Instagram for romance novels,” Streloff said.

Two other books with Streloff are in the works of different authors, but he doesn’t have the titles or release dates yet. He now has an agent and the authors contacted him via Instagram, he said.

Streloff prefers to model for his business, so he is more focused on these avenues than on modeling for others.

It took a while to develop an audience on social media, but Streloff said their online sales now compete with in-store sales.

“I’ve done a lot of research on this and they say you should post between seven and 25 pieces of content per day on three to nine different platforms. It’s a full-time job to try to keep pace, but the payoff is there for sure, ”he said. “At first it was hard to get used to and we had no idea what we were doing at all, but we’re starting to understand now.”

Now one of their biggest challenges is managing website load speeds after a viral TikTok sends up to 50,000 viewers to their website.

“I can’t stress this enough, like the importance of creating content. The most important thing is that you are afraid of what people are going to think. You are afraid of it, you want it to be good, you want people to like it, but honestly you just have to do it, ”he said.

TikTok is the best social media platform to be able to reach the largest audiences with the least amount of effort, he said.

“If you’re a business and you’re not on TikTok, you’re missing out.”
