Amazon’s Kindle e-reader has been available in various forms for 13 years now, but owners are just starting to be able to set a book cover as their lock screen wallpaper.

As Engadget Reports, Amazon enables the option for most Kindle devices, but not for all. Supported models include “8th and 10th Generation Kindle, 7th and 10th Generation Paperwhite, 8th, 9th and 10th Generation Oases, and 7th Generation Voyage”. The other prerequisites are that your Kindle must be running firmware 5.13.5 according to good reader, and the ads should be disabled. If you bought an “Ad-Free” Kindle, you’re good to go. However, Ad-Funded Kindles (“Specials”) will need to turn off the feature, which costs $ 20.

Amazon has confirmed that the Display Cover option will work for the majority of books, magazines, comics, and manga, so you can set the lock screen to whatever you’re reading right now if you want. To enable the feature, go to your Kindle’s settings menu and find the “Show Cover” toggle. Turning it on will automatically use the current book / mag / comic book cover for reading on the lock screen.

So far, Amazon limited lock screen customization options to a set of available scenes or to a photo of your choice. With covers now available, hopefully the option gets even better so that you can tag a few books you read and have them go through their covers every time the lock screen is triggered.
