Carson High students design book covers and win publisher contracts

Jaden Anderson, 17, and Damien King, 18, seniors at Carson High School, have landed contracts with the Trois Corbeaux Publishing House for their work in creating designs for an epic new fantasy novel, “The Raven and the Raven: Dark Storm RisingWritten by Michael K. Falciani, the pen name of Kinkade DeJoseph, a teacher at Bordewich Bray Elementary School.
The student work was part of Patricia Ababio’s graphic design class at Carson High School. Four of Ababio’s classes entered the design competition. Damien King’s design will be the cover of the “Dark Storm Rising” book while Jaden Anderson’s design will be used as the brand logo for the entire “Raven and the Crow” series, which will be used on the title pages. of all books.

DeJoseph approached Ababio in November and asked if his students would be interested in designing the cover as a project. A few days later, DeJoseph was offered a contract with Three Ravens Publishing Co. to publish a novel. Senior editor Scott Tackett was open to suggestions from students working with his company. The students met during a Zoom call in Ababio’s classroom.

Winners will receive contracts with Three Ravens Publishing Co. for their work and a chance to further their careers in graphic design.
