6 BOOK COVER ARE ENTERED ON THE 2022 OXFORD BOOKSTORE BOOK COVER AWARD SHORTLIST

Kolkata, January 21, 2022: The Oxford Bookstore Book Cover Prize today announced the highly anticipated roster for its seventh edition of the Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival, which kicked off in virtual mode from today. A list of 6 book covers was chosen by the eminent jury composed of Dr Shashi Tharoordr. Alka Pande, Shobhaa De, Priti Paul, Kunal Basu and guest juror Emmanuel Lebrun-Damiens. The varied interests of these distinguished jurors helped create a rich and diverse perspective for the shortlist selected. The winner of the seventh edition of the Oxford Bookstore Book Cover Prize will be announced virtually later this year.

Announcing the shortlist, the Chair of the Prize Jury, Dr Alka Pande, said: “Never judging a book by its cover is a difficult axiom to follow. Invariably, we end up choosing a book because of the fascinating book cover. 7and edition of the Oxford Book Cover Prize salutes the creative genius and diversity of the Indian graphic design community”.

In her freshman year, Bena Sareen received the award for the book “Talking of Justice” by late author Leila Seth, published by Aleph. The following year, designer Pinaki De was declared the winner for the book “Kalkatta” written by Kunal Basu, published by Picador India. The third Oxford Bookstore Book Cover Prize was awarded to Maithili Doshi Aphale for the book ‘Himalaya’ written by Ruskin Bond and Namita Gokhale, published by Speaking Tiger. The fourth year, the prize was awarded to Bonita Vaz Shimray for the book “Remnants of a Separation” by Aanchal Malhotra published by HarperCollins. The fifth edition prize was awarded to Sneha Pamneja for “Tiffin”, published by Roli Books. Graphic designer Gunjan Ahlawat received the prestigious sixth edition award for the book “Gun Island” by Amitav Ghosh, published by Hamish Hamilton, an imprint of Penguin Random House.
